The United Steelworkers (USW) of the U.S. and Canada today signed an enhanced alliance with the Los Mineros mining and metals union of Mexico, moving one step closer to forming a unified North American labor union.
USW International President Leo W. Gerard said a strong, unified union is needed to fight for workers from the northern tip of Canada to the most southern tip of Mexico, particularly in the age of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Click here to download a copy of the document signed today.
The alliance was signed before some 3,000 delegates at the USW’s Constitutional Convention, where Los Mineros President Napoleon Gomez spoke via teleconference from Canada.
